Health Can't Wait Site Launched to Address Prior Authorization

The Michigan State Medical Society (MSMS) recently launched the "Health Can't Wait" website, a coalition of patients, health care providers, and associations dedicated to putting Michigan patients first and ending delays to health care access.

MSMS asks that physicians submit narratives that detail when patient care or treatment was delayed due to prior authorization red tape or step therapy. These stories will be used to educate Michigan lawmakers about the importance of prior authorization reform.

WCMS Looks Ahead to MSMS House of Delegates

Fourteen delegates representing Washtenaw will be at the 2019 MSMS House of Delegates (HOD) meeting in Kalamazoo on May 4-5.

This year's delegates can expect to debate resolutions on marijuana, opioids and pain management, gun violence, prior authorization, and additional public health issues. MSMS will also provide updates and a path forward on organizational remodeling.

The HOD is the official policy-making body of MSMS. Resolutions presented at HOD are the vehicles used to debate and determine the policies, priorities, and direction of MSMS.Washtenaw is allocated 14 voting slots, making our county the fourth largest delegation. A number of Washtenaw's delegates are also set to serve on prestigious reference committees. Washtenaw's district briefing will be held on Thursday, April 25 beginning at 6:30 PM at the Society Office.

WCMS Bulletin: Inaugural Edition

Access the inaugural edition of the WCMS Bulletin! This year’s President, Evelyn Eccles, MD, makes the case for "organized medicine" and how it is reorganizing to meet the challenges of change. Review MSMS’ End-of-Year Legislative Report and take a deep-dive on two, new laws impacting physicians: Maintenance of Certification (MOC) and the Interstate Medical Licensure Compact (IMLC). And continuing the theme of recounting the events of 50 years ago, Larry Baker, DO and Richard Burney, MD recall two, different educational experiences: starting a 3rd year clinical rotation on surgery and being plucked from residency and thrust into the role of radiologist in Vietnam.
