Influenza Activity

Influenza activity is currently increasing throughout Michigan. Several reports of confirmed influenza outbreaks in long-term care facilities have been received from different areas of the state. This is the time of the year where influenza and other respiratory outbreaks are more common in long-term care facilities and other high risk congregate settings. These outbreaks can spread quickly throughout a facility and pose significant threats to residents and staff. Early identification and response is critical to managing the outbreak and obtaining the best outcomes for the residents. Contact your local health department immediately if you suspect the start of a respiratory outbreak. Michigan public health law requires notification of communicable disease outbreaks, including influenza, within 24 hours, information can be found here.
