Since we are still enjoying summer outdoor activities, just a reminder that the fun can turn tragic quickly. Pedestrians and bicyclists are much more likely to suffer an injury or fatality in a traffic crash than drivers. In fact, while pedestrian and bicycle crashes make up approximately one percent of all traffic crashes, they account for 30 percent of all traffic fatalities in Southeast Michigan. With the increased interest in walking and biking across the region especially in summer months like August, it is everyone’s responsibility to keep our streets safe for all users, especially those most vulnerable.
With that in mind, please take advantage of the Walk Bike Drive Safe materials offered as part of this public education campaign. Check them out on SEMCOG’s website.
